I have worked at the coin store for 6 years now but I don't collect coins or paper money. The only thing numismatic related that I collect are tokens. Around 1885 merchants began issuing tokens to promote their businesses. Basically a metal coupon, tokens were issued in all different denominations or for glasses of beer or pints of milk, whatever the merchant was selling. I really like this token for Prima Beer. I sold one and I think I will buy the second one myself!

  1. Mike's family purportedly has tokens from their Grandma's tavern, here in Chicago, not far from where we now live...I think they issued them during the Depression or something...I have never seen one but I hope I will. Andrea
