After two days of the warmest weather we have ever had on our Fall trip to Ouray we woke up this morning to rain and strong winds. Eventually it passed and so we headed out to see the sights. Snow was on all the mountain peaks, including my favorite Red Mountain. We then went on to Cunningham Gulch where we saw several old mine ruins and then attempted to hike up to a mountain lake. We never made it to the lake as we got too late of a start but we did have a great time on the hike.

We got a late start today due to having to drive to Montrose to replace a shock on the Scout.
After that we drove outside of Ouray on the Million Dollar Highway -my favorite drive and views in the state! We went for a hike that seemed to go straight up forever but had excellent views of course. Carl did a little fishing at the lake and then we went back to town for dinner at the Western Hotel and a beer at the Ourayle House.

First day of our vacation! We went to our "cabin" for the first night. It was hard to get going today so we arrived a little later than we expected. I love to see all the aspens beautifully colored. We went out at sunset and as I was taking a picture of the scene I was scared to death by noise and movement and realized that it was a group of deer running up the hill. I captured them in silhouette.

The full group we had this year at the Great American Beer Festival. Me, Treva, Mathew, Matthew and Carl. I'm not going to lie, we made several mistakes this year. Carl forgot his ID and had to drive to Castle Rock to meet Kelly to get it, so we didn't get there early like we planned. We didn't eat before, which is always a mistake and we didn't have a list of places we wanted to go to so we had to wing it. Apparently, Carl and I also don't have the tolerance we have had in previous years due to not drinking as much these days and perhaps weight loss- so we ended up FAR too drunk. Still, all in all we had a great time!

First day of Fall! I love fall, but man is it cold! We actually have the heat on right now.
I got my new camera today, just in time for vacation in 4 days. The top picture shows how my outdoor pictures got a ghostly fog in them from the scratch on the lens. The bottom picture is from the new camera- no ghost, yay!

Book club at my house tonight, we read The Four Corners of the Sky by Michael Malone. It was a fun read but not a real in depth discussion book. Everyone brought an appetizer or dip so we had many delicious treats to eat and then key lime pie. I like this picture of everyone showing their best enthralled with the book pose!

See the huge scratches on my camera lens??? I scratched this over the weekend, not sure how but I do know it is my fault for setting it down without putting the lens cap back on. So sad. I took it to a camera shop and basically it will probably cost as much to replace the lens (they can't fix it) as it would to replace the camera. I am such an idiot.

We went to the "cabin" today for our Labor Day festivities. The first picture is of an owl I saw when walking Maxx. There was a pissed off squirrel chattering away at the owl which is how I saw him. I guess the squirrel didn't want to share his tree. Then we came around a corner where two horses were grazing. Maxx did not know what to think of the large animals, but he did attempt to herd them before we pulled him away. On the way out we saw two elk (or deer) grazing in the grass- we were too far away but I took the picture anyway.

We started off today by getting up at 6:30 to go to the balloon lift off. It was cloudy with unsure weather so they didn't take off until 8:15 - we had already left for home by then so I took a picture of this one from the house.
Later, I had the girls over for dinner and to go to the Balloon Glow, which they canceled due to the weather! So not a good day for me and balloons. It was nice to see Debbie who was here visiting from Minnesota (good to see Monica and Patsy too!)

Cool item of the day that I am listing on eBay. This is an 1897 Denver Carnival souvenir badge. I love this for so many reasons, but especially due to the super creepy jester/clown at the center. Old souvenir items like this always amaze me because of the quality and detail that you would never find on a modern piece.
